Jacobean Lily

Perennial herb with brown bulbs to 5 cm wide. Leaves linear, to 0.5 m long, 2 cm wide, present at flowering. Flowers terminal, solitary, to 10 cm long with 1 spathe that is tubular at the base and split along one side, the flower stalk shorter than the spathe; spring and summer. Perianth bilaterally symmetric with 6 free segments, the 2 lateral ones curved down and the lower ones rolled into tubes at the base. Stamens curved first down then up. Ovary inferior with 6 angles and 3 chambers, each chamber containing numerous ovules. Fruit capsule 3-angled with many flattened winged black seeds.
