Scadoxus multiflorus (Martyn) Raf.

As for S. puniceus, but generally more robust, to 1.2 m tall; bracts of inflorescence quickly withering and the umbel of flowers expanding into a ball; spring, early summer.

 

There are three subspecies, two of which are in cultivation:

subsp. katherinae (Bak.) Friis & Nordal Perianth tube usualy more than 15 mm long and perianth segments to about 4 mm wide. [Haemanthus katherinae Bak.]

subsp. multiflorus Perianth tube usually less than 15 mm long and perianth segments usually less than 2.5 mm wide. [often known as Haemanthus multiflorus Martyn]

Spherical flower head.
