Bulb brownish to 5 cm wide. Flowers white to 4 cm wide with a yellow or orange corona in clusters of 3-15 on unequal stalks. Perianth tube 1-2 cm long, the lobes spreading. Corona yellow; winter to spring.
Western Mediterranean
N. dubius Gouan. from France and Spain has white flowers 4-5 cm wide.
N. pachybolbos Dur., with blunt perianth lobes about half as long as the tube, is occasionally encountered.
