Barbados Snowdrop

Bulb with a short neck. Leaves about 15 cm long, appearing after the flowers. Spathe 2.5-3 cm long. Flower to about 3.5 cm long, yellow inside, generally orange to reddish outside, the flower tube short; summer. Flower stalk reddish. Stamens about 1.5 m long. Fruit capsule to 1 cm wide. [H. andersonii A.D. Herb., H. texanus (A.D. Herb.) Steud]

Warm South America

 

Other species occasionally encountered include: H. robustus A.D. Herb. and its hybrids, and H. martinezii Ravenna.

Plants with orange colourings are sometimes incorrectly named H. andersonii.
