Perennial bulbous herbs. Bulbs 3-4 cm wide with thick roots. Leaves 5-6, linear, to 40 cm long and 1 cm wide, appearing after the flowers. Main stem to 30 cm or more long, solid. Bracts 2, 7-9 cm long soon withering. Flowers 3-5 per umbel with stalks about 1 cm long, bisexual, regular, 4-7 cm long, yellow, tubular at the base and with a small corona; spring. Ovary with 3 chambers. Fruit a capsule containing a few flattened black seeds.
