Spring Starflower

Herb with small ovoid bulbs. Leaves several, onion-scented when bruised, linear, stem-sheathing, flat, waxy blue, shorter than inflorescence. Inflorescence to 30 cm, spathe purple-veined. Flowers 2.5-3 cm wide; spring. Tepals blue to white, fading with age, midvein darker, purplish. Stamens shorter than tepals. [Triteleia uniflora Lindl.]

Uruguay and northern Argentina

Widely grown in gardens as a spring bulb in full sun to light shade.

Naturalised in most states.
