Chives

Clump-forming herb with narrowly conical bulbs. Leaves 1-2, linear, sheathing, hollow, shorter than inflorescence. Inflorescence 5-50 cm long, stem hollow, spathe 1, 2-3-lobed, umbel dense. Flowers 8-30, 7-15 mm long, bell-shaped; summer. Tepals deep rose to lilac, pale purple or white. Stamens shorter than tepals.

Balkans, Siberia and Asia Minor

Grown as a decorative culinary herb and as a border plant in full sun.
