Water Arum

Perennial rhizomatous bog herb to 30 cm tall. Leaves basal, ovate, heart-shaped, to 12 cm long and wide with sheathing bases; stalks to about 25 cm long. Flowers with perianth absent; summer. Spathe green outside, white inside, about 5 cm long and 4 cm wide. Spadix much shorter than spathe, 2-3 cm long, green shortlystalked and without an appendix. Ovary 1-chambered. Fruit a red berry with 4-10 seeds.

Temperate N America and Eurasia.
