Hemerocallis lilioasphodelus L.

Clump-forming rosette fleshy-rooted herb to 80 cm high from a short rhizome. Leaves several, annual, linear-lanceolate. Inflorescence a few-branched panicle, shorter than leaves, solid. Flowers several, spreading, to 80 mm wide, scented, lasting 1-3 days; spring to autumn.Tepals lemon yellow.

China, Mongolia, Japan, Korea, Russia and Europe.

Grown as a hardy garden ornamental on a wide range of soils in full sun to light shade. The cultivars are too numerous to detail here. The flower buds are eaten steamed in Chinese cooking.
