Climbing vine to 10 m from a short rhizome. Stems more or less woody, much branched, twining. Leaves numerous, linear to broadly ovate, inverted. Inflorescence an open, cymose panicle. Flowers numerous, spreading, to 15 mm wide; spring.Tepals white. Berry 6-10 mm long, ovoid, black.
Coastal E Australia to the Philippines and New Caledonia.
The young shoots are edible.
