Bulbinella nutans (Thunb.) Durand & Schinz

Rosette perennial herb with thickened roots from a thick corm. Inflorescence to 100 cm, flowers in a dense, more or less conical (at least initially) head. Leaves broadly linear-tapering, channelled, sheathing. Flowers very numerous, spreading, to 1 cm wide; spring-summer. Tepals bright yellow with dark midvein in bud. Syn. B. floribunda hort.

S Africa.

Generally sold as B. floribunda (a name known only from horticulture), these plants are either B. nutans or the closely related, but larger B. latifolia.

B. hookeri (Hook. f.) Cheeseman from New Zealand is a rosette perennial herb with thickened roots from a thick corm. Inflorescence to 100 cm, flowers in a dense, more or less cylindrical head. Leaves broadly linear-tapering, channelled, sheathing. Flowers very numerous, spreading, to 1.4 cm wide; spring-summer. Tepals bright yellow with dark midvein in bud.
