Watsonia aletroides (Burm.f.) Ker Gawl.

Leaves 15-40 cm long, 0.5-1.0 cm wide. Spike 25-60 cm tall with 10-20 flowers, sometimes branched; early spring. Spathes 17-28 mm long, overlapping, papery, brown-streaked. Perianth bright red with the inner segments much paler; upper tube 26-32 mm long, narrowly cylindrical, 6-8 mm wide at mouth; segments obovate, obtuse, hooded; 10-12 mm long, 7-9 mm wide. Stamens grouped below style.

Other unnamed hybrids with W. borbonica, W. coccinea and W. laccata exist.

A hybrid with w. borbonica; about 125 cm tall, flowers with long pink tube and shorter, spreading, pale pink segments.
