Velvet Flower

Stem 20-30 cm tall, few-branched. Leaves 5-18 mm wide, obtuse. Flowers 2-6, orange; spring. Perianth tube about 8 mm long, yellow; segments equal, 25-35 mm long, each with a yellow base surrounded by a black, red-edged arrowhead mark. Anthers erect, yellow, exceeding the style.

Cape Province.

Many named hybrids were produced using this species in the late 19th to mid 20th centuries.
