Schizostylis Backh. & Harv.

Greek schizo – split, and stylos – style, referring to the deeply divided style.

Perennial herbs with rhizomes. Leaves basal, linear, with midvein. Spike 2 sided. Flowers erect, radially symmetrical, each within a green pointed spathe. Perianth segments slightly unequal to tube. Style divided in throat of tube into 3 slender branches with minute stigmas.

1 species in southern Africa.

Division in winter.
