Orthrosanthus polystachyus Benth.

Leaves 25-60 cm long. Panicle 60-120 cm tall; spring. Spathes in groups, some sessile and others on stalks to 1 cm, each 1 flowered. Perianth segments joined, 15-20 mm long, acute, sky blue. Stamens joined. Syn. O. multiflorus most garden plants of this name, not Sweet.

SW WA.

O. laxus (Endl.) Benth. from SW WA has leaves 12-45 cm long. Panicle 30-55 cm tall, loose; spring. Spathes solitary on branches 1-7 cm long, 3-4 flowered. Perianth segments joined, 15-20 mm long, obtuse or apiculate, sky blue. Stamens free.

O. chimboracensis (Kunth.) Baker from Ecuador has leaves 15-70 cm long. Panicle 60-120 cm tall, dense; late spring. Spathes in evenly spaced groups, some sessile and others on stalks to 2 cm, each 3-6 flowered. Perianth segments free, 12-18 mm long, sapphire blue, the outer three apiculate, the inner obtuse. Stamens free.
