Leaves to 50cm long, 6 mm wide, dull green with brownish stripe and often turning completely bronze to orange. Stems 30-45 cm tall with thick branches diverging at a narrow angle. Spathes 12-43 mm long. Flowers 18-25 mm wide, white, on stalks to 10 mm long; late spring. Outer perianth segments lanceolate, acute, 7 mm long; inner segments ovate, 11-16 mm long. Anthers yellow.

L. peregrinans Cockayne &Allan from New Zealand has stolons to 30 cm long. Leaves to 40 cm long, 10 mm wide, dull green with brownish stripe and often turning completely orange or bronze. Stems shorter than the leaves, with robust branches diverging at a narrow angle. Flowers about 20 mm wide, white, on stalks shorter than spathes. Outer perianth segments obtuse, about 7 mm long; inner segments 10-15 mm long. Anthers dark brown. Capsule black.
