In the Series Californicae hybridisation of species has been active in the UK, US, and in Australia, notably by Dan Hargrave, Barry Blyth and I. Schmidt. Cultivars, many of hybrid origin, are often listed under I. innominata. A number of cultivars are derived from crosses with Siberian Irises. Notable Australian contributions to this group are many cultivars produced by Barry Blyth and named after Victorian country towns and by I. Schmidt after South Australian country towns.
