Rhizome with stolons. Leaves flat, 5-10 mm wide, drooping, absent in winter. Stems branched, 15-30 cm tall. Flowers solitary between fused spathes, 3-4 cm wide, pale lavender-blue; early summer. Perianth tube 1-1.5 cm long; falls 2.5 cm long with a white, violet-veined signal patch and small yellow crest.

This and I. cristata are miniatures within the group.
