Hesperantha cucullata Klatt

Leaves linear, to 10 cm long, 4-5 mm wide. Stem to 30 cm tall, branched. Spathes to 18 mm long, green. Flowers 6-8, white to pink; early spring. Perianth tube 10-14 mm long, straight; outer lobes 15-20 mm long, usually red-purple on the back; inner lobes shorter, paler. Syn. H. buhrii L. Bolus.

H. bachmannii Baker from Cape Province has leaves linear, to 30 cm long, 3 mm wide. Stem to 40 cm tall, branched. Spathes to 27 mm long. Flowers 2-6, white with pale orange in centre; early spring. Perianth tube 8-10 mm long, strongly curved downward at the apex; lobes equal, 2-4 cm, reflexed.
