Gladiolus papilio Hook.f.

Perennial herb to 90 cm tall. Leaves 25-45 cm long, 7-24 mm wide. Spike zigzag with 4-12 flowers. Spathe oblong, 2-3 cm long. Perianth bell-shaped, yellow; tube 2 cm long; uppermost lobe 3 cm long, erect, lower 3 narrower, 2-3 cm long, each with a brown-purple patch; summer. Anthers cream.

Transkei to Transvaal.
