Dietes iridioides (L.) Klatt

African Iris

Leaves to 45 cm long, 2 cm wide without a prominent midrib. Stem 1-1.2 m tall, sparsely branched. Flowers 3.5-5 cm wide, white, lasting 1 day; outer perianth segments 2.5-3.5 cm long with a yellow hairy signal patch; late spring to summer. Style branches to 1 cm long, pale blue-mauve. Fruit capsule 2-3 cm long. Syn. D. vegeta of gardens, not N.E. Br., Iris moraeoides of gardens.

Kenya to S Africa.
