Cypella coelestis (Lehm.) Diels

Stem 45-100 cm high, unbranched. Leaves to 50 cm long, 3 cm wide, blue-green, present at flowering. Flowers 5-7 cm wide, lasting 4 hours; late spring and summer. Perianth with claws mottled brown and yellow; outer segments with broad-obovate limb 30-40 mm long, pale blue flushed dull yellow; inner segments with yellow centre and blue sides. Style lilac-blue with acute crests. Seeds flat, winged. Syn. Phalocallis coelestis (Lehm.) Ravenna, C. plumbea Lindl., Herbertia platensis hort.
