Zygopetalum maxillare Lodd.

Medium sized epiphyte. Pseudobulbs ovoid to oblong, to 7.5 cm long, clustered. Leaves 2 or 3, narrow-lanceolate, to 35 cm long, to 2.5 cm wide, light green. Flowers 5-8, to 6 cm wide, strongly fragrant; any month of year. Sepals and petals similar, oblong, spreading, petals slightly shorter and narrower than sepals, green with brownish streaks or blotches. Labellum 3-lobed, midlobe broad-obovate to round, notched at tip, bluish-purple, callus large, fleshy, purple, horseshoe-shaped.
