Plain Sun Orchid

Stout terrestrial to 60 cm tall. Leaf linear to lanceolate, to 30 cm long, to 2 cm wide, erect, channelled. Flowers 1?10, to 3.5 cm wide, mostly blue; spring to summer. Perianth segments ovate to elliptic. Column with a prominent inflated tubular midlobe, side lobes pointing forward, oblong, with a dense hair tuft at tip. The name T. aristata Lindl. has been misapplied to this species.

T. aristata Lindl. from SE Australia is a stout terrestrial orchid to 1 m tall with blue to purplish flowers to 4 cm wide and a strap-like column midlobe. Syn. T. grandiflora Fitzg.

T. pauciflora R. Br. from southern Australia and New Zealand is a slender terrestrial orchid to 50 cm tall with blue, pink or rarely white flowers to 2.5 cm wide and a tubular column midlobe that is notched at the tip.
