Rhynchostylis gigantea (Lindl.) Ridl.

Medium sized epiphyte. Stem to 20 cm long. Leaves linear, to 35 cm long, to 7.5 cm wide, thick, channelled, green. Inflorescences to 35 cm long, drooping. Flowers to 3 cm wide, fragrant, white with violet to dark purple spots at base, labellum with purple terminal lobes; autumn to winter. Sepals elliptic. Petals elliptic, similar to sepals. Labellum 3-lobed at tip, oblong, 2-ridged at base. Spur short, inflated, backward-pointing.
