Paphiopedilum insigne (Lindl.) Pfitzer

Medium sized epiphyte or epilith. Leaves several, strap-like, to 40 cm long, to 4 cm wide, yellow-green. Flowers solitary or rarely 2, to 12 cm wide; autumn to winter. Dorsal sepal ovate, larger than laterals, yellowish to greenish with purple spots. Petals oblong, narrower than dorsal sepal, spreading, greenish with brownish veins. Labellum helmet-shaped, colour similar to petals.

P. charlesworthii (Rolfe) Pfitzer from Burma is a small terrestrial or epilith with green leaves, solitary flowers with a very broad dorsal sepal that is white with purplish veins, petals that are narrow, wavy-edged, mostly reddish-brown and a reddish-brown, helmet-shaped labellum.
