Compact epilith. Leaves 4 or 5, elliptic, to 14 cm long, to 5 cm wide, dark green mottled with pale green. Flowers solitary or rarely 2, to 8 cm wide, white or cream with maroon spots; summer. Dorsal sepal elliptic to almost round, larger than laterals. Petals broad-ovate, slightly narrower than dorsal sepal. Labellum narrow-ovoid, pouched, margins curved inwards.

P. concolor (Bateman) Pfitzer from China and SE Asia is a medium sized terrestrial or epilith with mottled leaves, 1 or 2 (rarely more) cream, purple-dotted flowers, dorsal sepal and petals of similar size and shape and a relatively small pouched labellum.
P. niveum (Rchb. f.) Stein from Malaysia and Thailand is a medium sized terrestrial or epilith with mottled leaves, 1 or 2 white flowers with small purple dots towards base of segments, dorsal sepal and petals of similar size and shape and a relatively small pouched labellum.
