Greek neos – new; and after Friedrich Wilhelm George Lauche (1827−1883), German dendrologist and gardener.

Epiphytic herbs, sympodial, with long, creeping, branched rhizomes. Stems thickened into small ovoid pseudobulbs, well spaced, with fibrous basal sheaths. Leaves apical, solitary, almost terete. Inflorescences terminal, erect or arching. Flowers resupinate, solitary, small, mostly lilac or deep pink. Sepals similar, ovate, dorsal free, laterals joined at base forming a small pouch with column foot. Petals ovate, larger than sepals, free. Labellum entire, broad-ovate, concave, 2-toothed near base. Column short, fleshy. Pollinia 8.
