Masdevallia tovarensis Rchb.f.

Medium sized epilith. Stems very short. Leaves obovate to oblanceolate, to 14 cm long, to 2 cm wide, leathery, tip minutely 3-lobed, dark green. Inflorescences to 18 cm long, erect. Flowers 1-4, to 4 cm wide, crystalline white with cream tails on sepals; winter. Sepals dissimilar, all fused at base, laterals fused for about half their length. Petals small, oblong. Labellum small, oblong, 2-ridged, tip curved under.

M. infracta Lindl. from Brazil and Peru is a small epiphyte with bright glossy green leaves and 1?5 yellow to brownish flowers opening in succession.
