Medium sized epiphyte. Pseudobulbs ovoid, to 10 cm long, compressed, tip with spines. Leaves several, elliptic to lanceolate, to 45 cm long, to 15 cm wide. Flowers solitary, to 10 cm wide; spring. Sepals yellowish-green. Petals shorter than sepals, bright yellow to orange. Labellum 3-lobed, midlobe almost round, hairy, yellow with reddish spots.

Mexico and C America.

L. aromatica (Hook.) Lindl. from Mexico and C America is a medium sized epiphyte or epilith with ovoid pseudobulbs and solitary yellow flowers to 8 cm wide.
