Epidendrum ciliare L.

Medium sized epiphyte or epilith. Pseudobulbs cylindrical, to 20 cm long, compressed, tufted. Leaves 1?3, oblong, to 28 cm long, to 8 cm wide, glossy. Flowers few?many, to 15 cm wide, white, green or pale yellow, labellum white; winter. Sepals and petals similar, narrow-lanceolate, spreading. Labellum 3-lobed, side lobes triangular with fringed outer margin and apical tail, midlobe linear, rigid.

Mexico,West Indies, C and S America.

E. stamfordianum Bateman from Mexico, C and S America is a medium sized epiphyte with spindle-shaped pseudobulbs, many showy yellowish-brown flowers with reddish or purplish spots and deeply 3-lobed labella with the midlobe deeply 2-lobed.
