Diuris punctata Sm.

Purple Donkey Orchid

Slender terrestrial to 60 cm tall. Leaves 2, to 30 cm long, to 4 mm wide, erect, channelled. Flowers 1?10, to 6 cm wide, mostly mauve or purple; spring to summer. Lateral sepals linear, parallel. Petals erect. Labellum broad-ovate, erect, side lobes oblong, midlobe much larger, almost round, callus of 2 divergent ridges.

SE Australia.

D. fragrantissima D.L. Jones & M.A. Clem. from Victoria is a slender terrestrial with up to 10 scented flowers that are white with purplish suffusions. Syn. D. punctata var. albo-violacea Rupp ex Dockrill.
