Tiger Orchid

Robust epiphyte. Pseudobulbs compressed-ovoid, to 12 cm long. Leaves several, linear, to 60 cm long, to 4 cm wide, fleshy. Flowers 12-60, to 4 cm wide; spring to summer. Sepals and petals lanceolate to elliptic, similar, usually olive-green with purple markings but variable. Labellum minutely hairy, off-white with red or purple spots, callus green or cream. Considered difficult to grow.

Inland N Australia extending into NSW.

C. madidum Lindl. from Qld &NSW is a robust epiphyte or epilith with long pendent many flowered racemes of smallish flowers (to 4 cm wide) that are mostly olive-green in colour.
