Ceratostylis retisquama Rchb.f.

Small epiphyte with pendent rhizomes. Stems very short, hidden by brown papery bracts. Leaves solitary, linear-lanceolate, to 12 cm long, to 1.5 cm wide, 2-lobed at tip. Flowers 1 to several in succession, to 2.5 cm wide, mostly brick-red; throughout the year. Sepals and petals similar. Labellum ovate, base white and partially enclosing column. Syn. C. rubra Ames, C. retisquamea.
