Catasetum pileatum Rchb.f.

Robust epiphyte. Pseudobulbs spindle-shaped, to 25 cm long. Leaves several, lanceolate, to 30 cm long, to 5 cm wide. Flowers 4?10, males and females on different inflorescences; autumn. Male flowers to 11 cm wide, pleasantly fragrant, waxy, white to yellow-green, sometimes with purplish flecks. Sepals and petals narrow, spreading. Labellum almost round, flat, with a small sac-like pouch near centre, margins entire or fringed. Female flowers with a saccate labellum.

Tropical S America and Trinidad.
