Christmas Orchid

Robust terrestrial. Pseudobulbs ovoid, to 8 cm long, mostly subterranean. Leaves 4?10, narrow-obovate, to 90 cm long, to 18 cm wide. Inflorescences erect, to 1.5 m tall. Flowers 18-40, to 4 cm wide, crystalline white; spring to summer. Sepals and petals similar, ovate to obovate. Labellum 3-lobed, midlobe deeply 2-lobed, calli yellow. Syn. C. veratrifolia (Willd.) R. Br.

C. reflexa Maxim. from Korea, Japan and Taiwan is a compact terrestrial with small pseudobulbs, oblong leaves to 15 cm long, erect flower stalks to 40 cm tall and white to purplish flowers to 2 cm wide.

Japan, SE Asia and Australia.
