Perennial twining vine to about 10 m; stems smooth. Leaves mostly cauline, alternate, ovate to broadly lance-shaped. Inflorescence 1 flowered. Flowers bellshaped, pendulous; summer to late autumn. Tepals to 9.5 cm long, inner 3 much wider, red to white, inner 3 often pale spotted.
Now available in a range of cultivars with white to pink and blood red flowers.
var. albiflora Hook. Flowers white.
