Lapageria Ruiz & Pav.

Named for Joséphine Tascher de la Pagérie, wife of Napoléon Bonaparte and patron of gardening.

Perennial, short rhizomatous evergreen twining vine with branching, woody stems. Leaves many, ovate to broadly lance-shaped, stalked. Flowers radially symmetrical, bell-shaped, pendulous. Inflorescence 1 flowered, axillary; bracts several.Tepals 3+3, free. Stamens 6, free, inwards facing. Ovary superior, ovoid. Fruit an elongate berry. Seeds numerous, pale yellow.

Grown in cool, moist, shady conditions for the spectacular simple waxy bell flowers.
