Perennial herb to 40 cm tall, rhizomes fleshy, branched. Leaves almost round or kidneyshaped, to 20 cm long, to 20 cm wide, margins toothed, glabrous above, hairy below, petiole to 30 cm long. Capitula 6-20 in panicles, to 1 cm across; mostly winter. Ray florets ligulate, pinkish or purplish. Disk florets whitish. Achenes 1.5-2 mm long.
