Cassinia aculeata (Labill.) R.Br.

Common Cassinia

Woody shrub to 3 m tall. Stems erect, with yellowish glandular hairs. Leaves linear to oblong, to 3 cm long, 1-2 mm wide, sticky, margins curved under, lower surface yellowish. Capitula many in dense corymbs, to 2 mm across; summer to autumn. Florets 4-7, creamy white. Achenes 0.6-1mm long. Pappus about 2 mm long.

Eastern Australia

 

The following broader-leaved species are occasionally grown in horticulture:

C. aureonitens N.A.Wakef. from NSW, an erect shrub to 3 m tall with leaves 2-5 mm wide, capitula about 1 mm across, each with 5 or 6 yellow florets;

C. longifolia R. Br. (Shiny Cassinia) from SE Australia, an erect shrub to 3 m tall with leaves 2-6 mm wide, capitula about 1.5 mm across, each with 5 or 6 creamy white florets.
