Purple Burr Daisy

Erect or prostrate perennial herb to 60 cm tall, hairy. Stems sparsely branched. Basal leaves withering early. Stem leaves cuneate to spathulate, to 4 cm long, margins toothed towards apex, sparsely hairy, sessile. Capitula solitary or in loose cymes, to 2 cm across; mostly spring. Ray florets white, blue or purple. Achenes 0.8-1.6 mm long, with narrow marginal ridges. Pappus of 2-4 rigid bristles and 2-4 scales.
