Scabiosa japonica var. alpina Takeda

Biennial herb to about 40 cm tall with softly hairy stems. Leaves pinnately to bipinnately lobed, mostly 5-10 cm long. Flower heads 3-5 cm wide, blue. The variety listed is a dwarf plant with slightly larger flowers than the type and the calyx long-spined.
