Royal Bluebell

Perennial herb to about 30 cm tall with spreading rhizomes. Leaves opposite or alternate, obovate to oblanceolate at the base, narrowing up the stem, 0.5-3.5 cm long, to 1.5 cm wide, margins wavy, entire or with small teeth. Flowers solitary on stalks to 25 cm long; summer. Corolla purple, lobes 1-2.5 cm long. Fruit capsule 8-12 mm long.

W. ceracea Lothian, Waxy Bluebell, from NSW, Vic and Tas is a blue-flowered species occasionally grown.
