Scrambling herb, erect at first. Leaves ovate to lanceolate, to 2.5 cm long, cordate, entire, hairy, stalked. Flowers to 2.5 cm long, mostly pendulous, pale blue with darker veins and orange and black marking at the base; summer.

C. lanceolata (Maxim.) Benth. & Hook. f. from China has purplish stems, with ellipticovate leaves that are waxy below and bluish mauve flowers spotted and lined inside [C. ussuriensis (Rupr.) Hemsl.];
C. ovata Benth. from the Himalaya has flowers lined pale blue;
C. tangshen Oliv. has yellowy green flowers with netted lines and purple spots inside;
C. viridiflora Maxim. from C China has flowers green, tinged with yellow.
