Shrimp Plant

Evergreen shrub to about 1m tall. Leaves to about 7 cm long, ovate to elliptic, downy. Flower clusters in hanging spikes with prominent brownish red to pink overlapping bracts. Flowers white, 2-lipped, the lower lip with red markings, almost concealed by the bracts. [Beloperone guttata Brandeg.]

Mexico

The plant from Peru formerly sold as the yellow cultivar 'Lutea' is now referred to Pachystachys lutea Nees.
