Prunella grandiflora (L.) Scholler

Perennial to about 0.5 m tall, slightly hairy. Leaves ovate to lanceolate, to about 10 cm long, entire or round-toothed, stalks long. Flowers with calyx about 1.5 cm long. Corolla at least 1.5 cm long, variously coloured, a feature reflected in the range of flower colour cultivars. [P. ×webbiana hort.]

Europe

 

P. laciniata (L.) L. from SW and C Europe is easily distinguished by the dense covering of hair and the cut leaves; it has yellowish white, rarely pinkish or purple flowers 1.5-2 cm long, and is naturalised in NSW.
