Spreading, fleshy, aromatic perennial herb. Leaves ovate, to about 10 cm long, 8 cm wide or more, densely hairy on both sides, fleshy and brittle when bent, margin round-toothed, stalk 0.5-1 cm long. Flowers in dense, spike-like clusters. Calyx glandular-hairy. Corolla 7-10 mm long, mauve or white. Stamens united at the base. [Coleus amboinicus Lour.]

Africa

Occasionally naturalised in coastal districts of Qld and NSW.

Grown for the unusual aromatic leaves, seemingly including several spicy aromas.
