Woody subshrub to about 0.5 m tall with many branches from the base, covered with a white down. Leaves roundish to about 4 cm long, 3 cm wide, whitish hairy, teeth rounded, upper surface wrinkled. Flower clusters of more than 12 flowers. Calyx lobes of 10 hooked spines. Corolla to about 1 cm long, white; year round.

Widely naturalised worldwide on disturbed sites and a noxious weed in many parts of Australia. Should not be grown.
Other species are occasionally offered as ornamental perennials.
