Lavandula latifolia Medik.

Spike

Shrub to about 40-60 cm tall, 1 m or so tall when in flower. Leaves linear to narrowly oblanceolate, margins entire and only slightly rolled under. Flower spikes branched below (generally 3 branches altogether), up to 20 cm long. Bracts linear to lanceolate, as long as calyx or longer. Calyx to 5 mm long,13-nerved and occasionally suffused with purple, the upper tooth with a protuberance. Petals to 1 cm long, dark purple; Feb-Mar. [L. spica in part]

Mediterranean

The common names have caused confusion because of their similarity to the botanical name L. spica.

Differs from L. angustifolia in having broader leaves, narrow bracts, branched flower stems and camphoraceous aroma.
