Perennial herb to 90 cm high, multi-stemmed, the stems often red, each one severalbranched and annual. Leaves alternate, clustered in loose rosette near the top of flowering stems; blades on stems linear to lanceolate, 40-130 mm long, 8-22 mm wide; blades in whorl-head elliptic, pale green; blade in floral head not fused, ovate, 10-20 mm long, 8-12 mm wide, orange or red. Floral head umbel with 6-8 rays. Cyathia 3-5 mm wide; glands 4 or 5, semi-circular to kidney-shaped, orange or yellow.

May become invasive.
